India has taken a major step toward strengthening its aerospace and defence capabilities with the launch of the ₹15,803 crore Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) infrastructure project in Andhra Pradesh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the project in Sri Sathya Sai district, marking a significant milestone in India’s self-reliance journey in defence manufacturing.
The AMCA programme is India’s first indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft initiative and is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the country’s advanced combat aviation capabilities. The project will establish critical infrastructure for aircraft integration, testing, and future production activities while supporting the development of next-generation military platforms.
The initiative is also expected to generate around 7,500 high-skilled jobs and attract significant investments into Andhra Pradesh’s growing aerospace and defence ecosystem. Alongside the AMCA project, several defence manufacturing and drone technology initiatives have been announced, positioning the state as an emerging hub for advanced defence technologies.
