India’s transition toward cleaner mobility is accelerating, with electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids, and CNG-powered cars accounting for nearly 30% of total passenger vehicle sales in FY2026. These segments grew at more than twice the pace of the overall auto industry, reflecting a strong shift in consumer preference toward sustainable and cost-efficient mobility solutions.
Around 1.34 million clean mobility vehicles were sold during the fiscal year, supported by factors such as rising fuel costs, improved technology, and expanding infrastructure. The trend indicates that India’s automotive market is steadily moving away from traditional petrol and diesel dominance.
The growth is also aligned with India’s broader goals of reducing oil dependency and lowering carbon emissions, especially amid global energy uncertainties and increasing environmental awareness.
Why This Matters
• Accelerates India’s shift toward clean and sustainable mobility
• Reduces dependence on imported fossil fuels
• Drives growth in EV, hybrid, and CNG ecosystems
• Supports India’s decarbonisation and climate goals
