Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kaynes Semicon’s ₹3,300 crore semiconductor manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a key milestone under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The facility is an OSAT (Assembly, Testing, Marking & Packaging) unit, aimed at strengthening India’s chip manufacturing capabilities.
The plant is designed to produce millions of chips per day, catering to industries such as automotive, EVs, telecom, consumer electronics, and industrial applications. It is one of the early semiconductor units in India to move toward commercial production, supporting the country’s ambition to become a global electronics manufacturing hub.
Why This Matters
• Strengthens India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem
• Reduces dependence on imported chips
• Supports industries like EVs, telecom, and electronics
• Boosts India’s position as a global semiconductor supply chain player
