India is set to manufacture advanced defence robots capable of operating in extreme temperatures as low as –40°C at a new Robotics & UAV facility in MIHAN-SEZ, Nagpur. The project is being developed by Solar Defence & Aerospace, a subsidiary of the Solar Group, as part of India’s growing push toward advanced defence technology and automation.

The 223-acre facility will focus on building unmanned robotic systems and Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drones, which can support border surveillance, patrol operations, and other defence missions in harsh environments like high-altitude regions.

The project is expected to become operational soon, with the first robot prototype likely within about a year. The initiative reflects how modern warfare is increasingly relying on robotics, drones, AI, and autonomous systems for surveillance and security operations.

Why This Matters

• Strengthens India’s defence technology and border security capabilities
• Enables operations in extreme environments such as high-altitude borders
• Boosts India’s robotics, UAV, and deep-tech manufacturing ecosystem
• Supports the shift toward AI-driven and unmanned defence systems
